Postural Bodymechanics
What is postural biomechanics?
This is an exercise-based approach to how you breathe, stand, and move. We begin with an assessment, then start where everything begins: your breath.
The first exercises focus on breathing and calming the nervous system, helping your rib cage open and your breath expand fully. When the ribs and diaphragm can move freely, the whole body often gains range of motion, and tension that has felt "stuck" can start to let go.
From there, we move into exercises that address your body's specific asymmetries, the side-to-side imbalances we all develop over time. At each follow-up session, we reassess, build on what's working, and adjust as your body changes. You'll leave with exercises to do at home, so your progress continues between sessions.
What it can do for you
In your first sessions, many people notice changes right away: fuller, easier breathing, more freedom in the shoulders, hips, and spine, and less of that "stuck" or braced feeling.
The bigger changes come with consistency. As you keep up your exercises at home, your body gradually learns new patterns. Over time, clients often find that:
Good posture starts to feel natural instead of something you have to force
Range of motion improves and holds, rather than slipping back
Everyday movements like sitting, walking, lifting, and reaching feel easier and more balanced
The results of massage and bodywork last longer, because your body is better able to hold the changes
What to expect
Session 1 (90 minutes): Assessment. We start with a thorough assessment of how you breathe and move, including range of motion testing, to get a clear picture of where your body is compensating. Then we try a few targeted exercises together to see which ones your body responds to best.
Session 2 (60 minutes): Reassess and adjust. We check where you're at since your first visit. Depending on your progress, I'll either give you new exercises or watch you do your current ones and refine your technique.
Session 3 (60 minutes): Reassess and progress. Another check-in and reassessment so we can see what's changed and set you up with a plan to keep going.
